In the year of its 125th anniversary, the VDMA is launching its Startup Machine: a new grouping that intends to bring together start-up companies and mechanical engineering companies.
The VDMA Startup-Machine serves as a hub for member companies to network them with startups. Under #VDMAhackdays, an event took place for the first time at which the VDMA itself met with startups to further develop its own association work with a startup culture.
On Thursday, 27 July 2017, the Startup Initiative of the VDMA Bayern took place together with the UnternehmterTUM in Garching near Munich. There, medium-sized companies and start-ups met to discuss possible cooperations and possibilities of future cooperation.

Warum nicht einfach mal Herausforderungen im Unternehmen an die Crowd zur Lösung ausschreiben? Diesem Motto folgend haben VDMA und Fraunhofer gemeinsam vom 17.-19. Mai 2019 einen Hackathon für den Maschinenbau in Berlin veranstaltet. Die Unternehmen KSB, Rolls-Royce Power Systems und F&S Bondtec hatten diverse Aufgaben rund um die Themen Datenübertragung, Fernwartung, Augmented Reality und Predictive Maintenance im Gepäck- und Gründer, Forscher und Startups stellten sich den Herausforderungen.
